Romeu Evaristo is a veteran of the arts. With more than four decades of career, the actor is remembered so far by the iconic character Saci Pererê, from “Sítio do Pica Pau Amarelo”, which aired between 1977 and 1986 on TV Educativa and later on TV Globo. Monteiro Lobato’s work marked several generations. “I am stopped in the streets to take pictures and many people comment that they grew up watching the stories of the ‘Sitio’. I cherish this character, because I know the responsibility that was to do something so playful for the children’s audience,” he says, also with several remarkable performances in the cinema, such as “Elvis & Madona” (2010), “Copacabana” (2001) and “Rio Babilônia” (1982).
Romeu debuted quite curiously on television in 1973 in the instructive soap opera “João da Silva”. “I did a test but I had in mind that I would work as “an office boy”, I did it anyways and I went back home. Later on, I realized that I was supposed to give life to an office boy on TV. As I lived in “Baixada Fluminense” no one could reach me easily. It lasted three days until I’m found. At that time, there were neither cell phones nor social network.” he recalls, always in a good mood.
He conveys his good vibes to some outstanding roles in his career such as “o malandro Angolano” that he played in the humorous program “Zorra Total” on TV Globo, from 2004 to 2013. He used some funny expressions that fell into popular taste, such as “Hum … Exigente!”. “I was going to Angola on a business trip when I came up with the idea of this character and it came to my mind naturally” says Romeu, who also was a soccer coach before. In 1995, he was an assistant coach of Nuno Leal Maia at Botafogo da Paraíba, where he won the State runner-up. In 1996, in Londrina the team won the third place in the “Campeonato Estadual Paraense”. He also had a significant stint playing in Rio de Janeiro teams such as São Cristóvão and Bangu Atlético Club. “Now soccer is now just playing as a center forward in spare time with friends,” says the actor.
In 2019 another very interesting character, the gossiper Fabricio, in the soap opera “Bom Sucesso”, with great ratings. “He’s a good guy, but he doesn’t miss the chance to take care of someone else’s life. It’s very fun to rescue this “carioca” way from the inner community cities”, he analyzes.
