Cordovani
@roberto_cordovani
Actor, author, director, producer, translator and voice actor. Roberto Cordovani has multiple artistic skills. Although he was born in Brazil, he has also Portuguese and Spanish nationalities. The passion for the arts came up at the age of six, when he started watching productions at “Teatro Municipal” in São Paulo. “My grandfather was a set designer, worked for directors such as Procópio Ferreira and Dulcina de Moraes. My aunt was a chorus girl and dancer from the company of the producer Walter Pinto who was the precursor of Brazilian Magazines Theater. Soon, it awakened my interest in theater. Puppets, marionettes, interpretation, paper costumes took part in my life”.
As a teenager, Cordovani studied classical ballet. “It was an extreme complicated time for a boy to study ballet: I had to hide it even from my family”, he says, which father worked as a bank executive and his other as a computer systems analyst. He amended several functions as long as he discovered the paths of his artistic passion. After the dance, he performed dubbing for television, voluntary reading work in NGOs and was interpreter for blind-deaf people in the prevention of suicide, among others. “This strengthened me as a director, actor and theatrical produce.”
In the theater, there are more than four decades of uninterrupted work. He won the prestigious award as the Best Actor of London and in the festival of Edinburgh, in Scotland, as the Best Director in “Profile Looks”(The Greta Garbo Myth), giving life to Greta Garbo in 1988; and the “Compostela de Teatro Prize” in Spain for the show “Eva Perón”, in the same category as the Best Actor, in which performed Eva Perón in 1995. Among other prominent shows: “Amar, verbo Intransitivo (2017), “A Paixão” according to Nelson Rodrigues (2016), “Lola” – The Musical forbidden by Nazism (2015), The Portrait of Dorian Gray (1991/2013), The Miracle of Anne Sullivan (1976/2014). “Sometimes doing theater is simple as long as you work in your truth. We are interlocutors of an era”, he argues, with experience acquired in the subject.
Cordovani presents himself in Europe in Portuguese. He has already covered nine countries and 320 European cities with his productions. This relationship with the stages is so intense that in 2006, he decided to have his own theater. He founded “Teatro Arte Livre” in Vigo (Spain), with a seating capacity for 120 seats, which he maintained for about ten years.” I am an entrepreneur, I believe in dreams, in projects, I turn them into achieviments” he says. After a solid career in theater, he returned to Brazil in 2017 as a guest star of TV Globo for special participation in the soap opera” Mundo Novo”, invited by the director Vinicius Coimbra, like the villain Sebastião Quirino. His performance earned praise from specialized criticism and nomination for TV awards. “I don’t feel the difference between TV and theater. Actually, on TV I have the concern about reaching the person in the 18th row as in theater. I can whisper and the voice reaches the television viewer. The truth on the scene is the same” he says.
