Dani
Ornellas
Actress
At age 17, Dani Ornellas visited Tablado (theater acting) it was enough to change her life. The moment she came across art and met Maria Clara Machado was born the desire to turn that passion into a way of life. “. “I was immediately taken by a wish that was stronger than me. I couldn’t think of anything else, but to become an actress. I knew I could do other things but happiness would be incomplete”, she recalls. In spite of the difficulties and the little family support – due to job instability – she rolled up her sleeves and moved forward.
She was keen to study, improve herself and that is what she has been doing until today. “The more I learn, the more I see that I have a lot to learn,” she says. Her debut was a success. It came up through a setting of Opera do Malandro, under the supervision of Maria Clara Machado. From there, more theater plays, awards in the movies and television work have been fulfilling the dream of this “carioca”.
Eager for knowledge, she also graduated in Tourism and attended free courses in the field of gastronomy.
In the movies, she was awarded for her performance in her first job: Cruz e Souza, o poeta do Desterro. It earned Dani Ornellas the award for the best actress in “Festival de Cinema Negro” in São Paulo, in 2005. Her participation in Filhas do Vento, by Joel Zito, was also responsible for the prizes at Festival Negro in Sao Paulo and Festival de Cinema in Macapá , both in 2005
In this last job, she took part of the movies Cidade de Deus. According to the actress, she had never seen a movie formed mostly by a black cast of actors. Through it, she ended up being known by the audience. “It was my second experience in films and my first contact with Paulo Lins. I did a test for a character, but I ended up playing another one. The truth is that thanks to this change of character, I played the scenes that I loved the most”, she said.
On television, her first job was in a soap opera called A Padroeira. Afterwards, she participated in shows such as Força Tarefa, Cidade dos Homens and Tecendo o Saber. It is also included the hit of soap operas: Duas Cara,s by Aguinaldo Silva, and also the co-production Brazil-Portugal Paixões Proibidas. On Futura channel, she presented the program Nota Dez – A Cor da Cultura and the series A família Imperial. Thanks to her participation in a famous Brazilian series called Suburbia she eventually became known by the general public and she was taken to the level of the most beautiful black actresses these days. “It was the greatest and best opportunity to show my work as an actress. I Consider Suburbia as a launch,” she added.
Among his most recent works, the character Deodora, in I Love Paraisópolis, in 2015, of TV Globo, and as the mother of Saint Simone de Oxum, in Malhação, in 2018.
